The accountability gap killing your LinkedIn strategy

Plus, how to fix it.

Last week, I had a call with someone I’ve fangirled over on LinkedIn for ages…Karla McNeilage.

Karla’s been posting on LinkedIn for years now. She’s an amazing storyteller, she’s got an incredible client base, and she works with some of the coolest brands on LinkedIn — like Stanley (my favourite tool!!).

She’s also moved from Scotland to Bali and is literally building her dream life.

Go Karla.

We only had one hour, but we covered a lot of topics.

Including the messy behind-the-scenes of showing up online. Like how hard it is to hold yourself accountable when no one else is watching.

The truth is:

LinkedIn is ALWAYS optional.

Even if your business is built on LinkedIn, like mine and Karla’s, it is optional.

Founder, self-employed, or full-time employee… no one is breathing down your neck to hit publish.

Skip a day? Nobody really notices.
Skip a week? It starts to become a habit.
Skip a month? Your audience slowly forgets you exist.

That’s the accountability gap and it’s where most people fail.

This is why having a clear strategy and goals in place is so important.

You can’t just “wing” LinkedIn. Because if you do, I can guarantee you’ll fail to show up.

You need content pillars to keep you focused and a publishing schedule to stick to. Without those two basics, your genius ideas will die in your Notes app.

If you’re struggling with accountability, try this:

Build a system → Decide what you’re going to post about and why (focus on your expertise and your audience’s problems).

Stick to a schedule → Post 3–6 times a week, but set a realistic goal you’ll actually achieve. Choose your days and set a time to ensure you show up.

Find a buddy → Pair with someone else who’s posting and can hold you accountable. Shame is powerful fuel.

Pre-commit → Block time in your calendar to create content and engage. Guard those work blocks like client work.

Ask yourself why each post matters → This anchors you to your mission and keeps you consistent.

None of this is sexy.

But it’s the difference between “thinking about posting” and creating content that actually converts into leads.

If you want my absolute #1 way to stay accountable…

It’s to invest.

Because when you spend money on something, you’re guaranteed to have more motivation to show up.

It’s what happened to me when I joined Literally Academy and did the 30-day challenge. I invested, I posted every single day, and I went from 0 followers to 10,000 in less than 3 months.

If you’re thinking about investing in growing your personal brand to sign more clients and earn more money…

Reply saying “COHORT.”

I might have something exciting for you…

All my love,
Mischa xx

P.S. Yes, this email was on yesterday’s to-do list. No, it didn’t get done then. Accountability, right?
