Let’s talk about money.

Building a personal brand can buy you financial freedom.

Last Saturday I hosted a big 31st birthday party. 

There were 46 people invited. A room full of my closest family, friends and of course LinkedIn friends. 

I woke up the next day feeling two things at the same time:

  1. so, so grateful (admittedly fairly hungover)

  2. and weirdly emotional about money (stay with me)

Because here’s the part I’m genuinely proud of…

I paid for the night.

Venue hire, alcohol, decorations and a very over the top birthday cake.

Not in a “look at me” way. I’m not trying to pretend my party was at Buckingham Palace 😂

But, in a “holy shit… I can do this now” way.

The party wasn’t that expensive. But even so, a few years ago, that wouldn’t have been possible.

Not because I wasn’t ambitious.
Not because I wasn’t working hard.
Not because I wasn’t successful in my career.

But because I’d never built a career that gave me excess.

In all honesty, my previous jobs had been pretty low-paying.

Building my personal brand has given me…

Enough money to say yes.
Enough income to move freely.
Enough stability to not constantly worry about what’s coming next.

I had a bit of a lightbulb moment when I became single. I was faced with the reality of renting alone and I had no choice but to make more money.   

There’s no safety net.
No one else’s plan to fall back on.
No “it’ll probably be fine.”

It’s just you. And I don’t think we talk about that enough, really.

When that really sinks in, you realise something quite confronting and empowering at the same time:

No one is coming to save you.

If you want freedom, you have to build it.
If you want security, you have to create it.
If you want choice, you have to earn it.

That realisation is what changed everything for me.

Because it’s the reason I stopped treating my online presence as a “nice to have” and started treating it as the foundation of my life.

It’s the reason I started associating money with success.

Building my personal brand didn’t just give me followers.
It gave me… 

  1. Clients.

  2. Income.

  3. Leverage.

  4. Freedom.

It’s the reason I can now do things I genuinely never thought would be possible for me.

Like spending six weeks in America (I leave on Friday!). To work remotely, meet people and build my business from a completely different environment - without asking permission or panicking about money.

That level of freedom didn’t come from luck.
It came from visibility.

From showing up online.
From sharing my ideas.
From building trust at scale.
From turning my voice into something people recognised and valued.

So when I talk about personal branding, it’s not because I think everyone should “build an audience”.

It’s because it fundamentally changed my life.

Not in a flashy way.
In a, grounding, confidence-building way.

The kind that lets you say yes to experiences.
The kind that gives you room to breathe.
The kind that means your life doesn’t shrink when things feel uncertain.

And I want that for other people too. You. 

Especially if you’re ambitious.
Especially if you’re building something on your own.
Especially if you’ve ever thought, I want financial freedom.

YOUR ONE TINY ACTION THIS WEEK.

Take 10 minutes this week and do this. 

Look at what you’re currently charging.
Then ask yourself, honestly:

  • Is this price based on my experience? Or my fear?

  • Am I charging for time… or for results?

Because here’s the reframe that changed everything for me:

People aren’t paying for:

  • The hour it takes

  • The number of posts

  • The output

They’re paying for:

  • The years it took to know what to write

  • The mistakes they don’t have to make

  • The patterns you can spot in minutes

  • The strategy behind the execution

Think of it like this: If you charge $3K to run paid ads for a company and that signs them $15K worth of clients - there is the value. Not the time, the output. 

So write this down (yes, actually write it):

If I charged based on the value I create - not the version of me who was just starting out - my price would be…

You don’t have to raise your rates today.

Just face that truth. 

When you price your work properly, you buy yourself freedom. More space. More choice. And that’s exactly what I want for you.
