Become Your PB

Yes, the newsletter I've been talking about for months is FINALLY here.

A little something from me 🌟

Welcome to Become Your PB. The ā€˜PB’ has two meanings: personal brand and personal best. This newsletter will help you build your personal brand whilst becoming your personal best, both of which go hand-in-hand.

I’ll get into the definition of what a personal brand is later on, but essentially it’s how you show up online (and offline) and we always want to show up as the best versions of ourselves.

I am so excited to finally be launching my very own newsletter. I’ve written and grown newsletters for multiple different companies and founders but never built my own.

Now, it’s time to change that.

What to expect šŸ‘€

In each newsletter, you’ll get 3 things (at least):

  1. A personal branding hack or update

  2. Something I’m loving on LinkedIn + why it works

  3. A quick hit of motivation to help you show up as your best

Let’s go…

1. Why the f should I build a personal brand? šŸŽÆ

A question I get asked a lot (especially by my parents) is ā€œwhat is a personal brand?ā€.

A personal brand is the way you present yourself online and in-person. It’s what people think when they see your name.

Think of any creator that you follow, whether they’re on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn…

That is a personal brand.

It’s an image they have crafted of themselves that has led you to become invested in them.

Why should you build one?

Your personal brand is exactly that — personal. It’s yours and no-one can take it away from you.

Whether you’re a student, an employee, a business owner or a mentor it sets you apart, gives you leverage and drives career growth.

So, why grow a personal brand on LinkedIn…

LinkedIn has one billion users but less than 3% post consistently. When we say consistently, we mean once a week (practically nothing). That’s in comparison to a platform like TikTok where 83% of users post content regularly.

Plus, LinkedIn is a ā€˜professional’ platform. Whatever your trade (doctor, lawyer, marketer, scaffolder or window cleaner), your ideal client is already on there. Building your personal brand boosts your visibility which builds trust, generates leads and ultimately drives revenue.

TDLR: Building a personal brand gives you leverage and puts you in control of your future. Choosing a platform like LinkedIn amplifies your voice and gives you the best chance at standing out.

2. A LinkedIn post i’m loving by Niall Ratcliffe 🧔

The other week, Niall Ratcliffe, CEO of Noticed wrote a great post on meeting new people.

I loved this post because…

The hook
→ ā€œUnderrated hack for levelling up your lifeā€
→ The hook is scroll-stopping and broad enough to attract a wide range of people — most people on LinkedIn are interested in levelling up.
→ Remember your hook should be 8-10 words long and it needs to build intrigue.

The layout
→ Great hook, controversial opinion, personal story followed by a clear breakdown
→ Niall’s posts usually provide value through education and this post is no different
→ Remember your posts should inspire, educate or entertain (ideally do all three)

The message
→ I’m here for this post because I love turning online relationships into IRL friendships
→ This message stands out because most content talks about online networking not connecting in-person
→ Remember, use LinkedIn to build genuine connections because it makes spending time on the platform so much more enjoyable

Bonus tip: If you see a post you like, save it! It will serve as inspiration when your creative juices are running low.

3. A motivational moment.

One thing I regret → not building my personal brand sooner.

I started posting on LinkedIn almost 4 years ago, ad-hoc without a strategy. In September, I decided to change that and now I’ve got a community of nearly 30,000 people and I’ve built a business through it.

Honestly, it makes me a bit ill to think about where I would be today if I had started sooner.

You will always wonder what if.

Do the thing that stops you wondering.

If you aren’t already following me on LinkedIn…

One last thing from me…

Every man and his dog is talking about The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins and I am no different. I was convinced this book was going to let me down because there’s been so much hype around it but…

It didn’t.

The Let Them Theory is all about detaching yourself from other people’s opinions and actions. If someone wants to judge you, let them.

This is so refreshing, especially when it comes to personal branding.

It’s always going to feel cringe at first, there’s always going to be someone ready to tear you down, there’s always going to be someone questioning your ability.

Let them.

It’s not your issue.

Well, I hope that was worth the wait.

Thank you all for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! I love honest feedback. The good, the bad, the ugly. If there is anything you loved (or not so loved) about this newsletter, please let me know.

See you next week,

Mischa x
